I was watching "The Caves of Androzani" for the first time in probably 20 years (scary!) and the guy playing Salateen seemed so familiar... watched the credits and saw 'Glenister' and thought... that can't be the guy from "Life on Mars" can it? Yeah, definitely some similarity with the mouth and eyes, but did he change that much? Watched the next episode and read the name again, Robert Glenister, not Philip... so had to look them up, and voila! Brothers! I'd seen Robert in a few episodes of "Hustle" but never connected him to "Caves." Or to Philip, though now the family resemblance seems quite obvious.

I was talking to a co-worker today about the 1970s, and having to explain because he wasn't born until 1987. It's still disconcerting to occasionally stop and think... I could have given birth to this *man* when I was 23.

A pregnant friend told me I was being invited to a baby shower and the date and time to reserve. When the shower was only a few days away, I finally checked to make sure that paper invitations were being sent. She was surprised I hadn’t received it and gave me the number to RSVP. So I ended up leaving a voicemail, "Hi, I’m going to be at your shower. I didn’t get an invite, but I’m told this time and day, so I’ll be there."

Turns out my pregnant friend forgot to put my name on the list. *facepalm* Hopefully the hostess didn’t think I was too bizarrely presumptive, or Saturday’ll be awkward...

I was leaving work and ended up walking by a co-worker I almost never see. And she said, "Oh, I was thinking of you. I was looking through a catalog and saw a toaster shaped Darth Vader's face. Have you seen that?"

And I thought... I'm not sure I want my co-workers to associate me with that level of geekiness.

Oops! Too late!

Co-workers were just... really odd today. I swear, I do not understand people sometimes... *sigh*

I read a lot of fanfic, though I haven't read much Blake's 7 in the last few years. I was thinking about different fandoms and how they generate different types of fanfic. And I realized I couldn't think of reading a single Blake's 7 AU. Lots of post-Gauda Prime fics that became very AU-ish, but no full-out AUs. It seems funny that no one ever wrote a B7/Robin Hood AU, as it's so obvious. Blake as Robin, Gan as Little John, Avon as Will Scarlet... Servalan could be the Sheriff of Nottingham's widow. She had a terrible fever and her beautiful long hair had to be all cut off. All the servants avert their eyes from her almost bald head, but she finds it liberating. *g*

I just watched the Doctor Who Christmas Special promo... EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

It was so lovely last Christmas, toddling home after a tiring day of presents and food, curling up on the couch, watching Doctor Who. I'm looking forward to another good end to Christmas.

I took mom grocery shopping today, and she mentioned that she writes every night about something that she's grateful for that day. So I thought I would write that I'm grateful she's old enough to willingly surrender doing Thanksgiving, but feels that she wants to contribute by buying most of the groceries. I'll have to do another run next weekend for the things that need to be bought fresh, but now there is a 17 lb turkey in my freezer and a stack of cans by the microwave. Must get the house cleaned top to bottom this weekend and double check recipes, and I'm in great shape for T-day.

I've made it back to yoga, which is good. I need more exercise. But sometimes I find the teacher grating. Thursday is supposed to be the more relaxing day, but she suggested being more energetic. And suddenly she's freaking trying to get us to do headstands. I hope in a few months I'm willing to try that, but today it was just... can I slap you?

I am influenced by serial killers... I stopped for take-out tonight and there was key lime pie on the menu. I've watched "Dexter" buy too many key lime pies this season, I had to have a slice. It was excellent and I tried really hard not to think about Dexter lacing it with poison. ;-)

The trees this time of year are so beautiful. I love fall.

I need to find errands to run this coming weekend, just so I can drive all over and see the different colors. Or maybe I'll take a long walk around my neighborhood, because we have the most lovely, established trees in the city. Not that I'm biased or anything. *g*

Is UNIT no longer the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce? I was watching the newest Sarah Jane Adventures and I could have sworn they referred to UNIT as the Unified Intelligence Taskforce. It was rather disconcerting...

I'm truly becoming a resident of this neighborhood... a white car has been parked outside my house all day. I have noticed this and wondered who they're visiting. I haven't yet got to the point of noting down their license plate number though.

Soon I will have to get a "neighborhood watch" sign...

I got my smog check done this morning. So very dull and yet I am so happy... last time I forgot until the very last day, when I found the notice buried on the table, so was frantically scrambling to get it done and not pay a late fine. This time I kept the notice on top of the stack, made an appointment, and was in and out in 20 minutes. So much easier to do that stuff timely.

Co-workers are weird. One woman's been frustrated for ages because people keep forgetting to include her in a process so she has to scramble to do the part she needs to do. So finally they sent her an invite to an important meeting, making sure to consider her schedule, and then she kept going on and on that they were assuming she was the expert who was going to guide them and she wasn't the expert who was going to guide them, she just needed to know what they were doing, they really needed to invite so-and-so instead of her and what were they even thinking, inviting her to this meeting?

Gee, could you be happy that they're finally remembering you at least? Yes, it's *too much* now, but isn't that better than total ignorance?

I was sorry to read that Michael Crichton has passed away. I've only read Jurassic Park and Rising Sun, but I've seen several more of the movies adapted from his books and usually enjoyed them. A friend and I actually read Jurassic Park at the same time, so we were talking about it as we read. I've never shared a book like that. Maybe I should join a book club? It was a fun experience, to share my love of novels.

I put in a tape to watch Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and went...wow, what? as political ads started rolling. Had to remind myself that Terminator aired *before* the election. But now, really truly, no more political ads. For a while. ;-)

Obama won, Obama won, Obama won!!!

No, please California, vote down Prop 8, and I will be happy.

I should do something but I'm too unfocused. I think I will respond to the cat's meowing and cuddle him a bit.

In the continuing theme of how geeky am I...

I did a favor for a group having a bureau get-together today, so they offered a piece of lemon cake, which I happily took. I tasted it and it was fabulous and I said, “This is great,” to the woman who brought it to me. She replied, “I know.” (Yes, she made it.)

And I thought, as I always seem to whenever I eat citrus, of Rodney McKay, whose citrus allergy has been mentioned all of once in canon, and yet has become permanently affixed in fanon. Whenever I go to Vegas, I buy some Ethel M’s lemon chocolates at the airport, and think of poor Rodney, who can never eat my favorite chocolate. Poor, poor fictional character...

How geeky am I? We had massive rain yesterday, all day. Rain so bad I kept looking for leaks and cursing not getting my roof replaced already.

I stepped out this morning. It's a beautiful day. The air is clear and the leaves are turning colors. And I realized that after a rain, I always picture the fifth Doctor, Tegan and Turlough at the start of "The Five Doctors," talking about how the air is so clear after rain. End of rain = Doctor Who.

Next I'll start associating the rain itself with Stargate: Atlantis "The Storm/The Eye." *g*
